Most people don’t know this, but from February 10-16, it just so happens to be Random Acts of Kindness Week. This week is dedicated to the kind words and actions that we can easily share with others but may not always think about when life gets in the way. The busy hustle and bustle of the world we live in can seem to consume us at times. But this is the perfect week to jumpstart the random acts of kindness that the world needs more of. This goes beyond words, as actions speak louder on many occasions. How we interact with others says a lot about our kindness, tolerance, and character.

On the road, we can certainly perform random, or not random, acts of kindness which keep people safer and happier overall. How we drive is more important than what we drive. When we drive responsibly, we can increase the safety on the roadways. It is when we lose track of that responsibility that we put our lives in danger and the lives of others. Road rage is the cause of so many accidents which could have been prevented. Aggressive driving includes racing, tailgating, failing to observe signs and regulations, and seeking confrontations with other drivers to name a few. Speeding is one of the most prevalent aggressive behaviors. AAA Foundation studies show that speeding is a factor in one-third of all fatal crashes. AAA states “half of all drivers in our Traffic Safety Culture Index admitted to exceeding both neighborhood and highway speed limits by more than 15% in the past 30 days. More remarkable, a quarter of drivers say they consider speeding acceptable.”

We encourage you to participate in Random Acts of Kindness on the roads and in everyday life. Allow others to merge, pass only in marked zones, do not fight for a parking spot, slow down, and be courteous of other drivers.
