We are all heading out on the roads at some point this holiday season. Some of will be departing from relatives’ houses, others will take to the roads for some post-Christmas retail therapy. But as we all venture out of our homes and onto the roadways this New Years, let’s remember to be safe, and help prevent tragedies that don’t have to happen. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) an estimated 11,773 people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes. Drunk driving fatalities accounted for 32% of all traffic deaths last year, that is, on average someone is killed in an alcohol-impaired driving crash every 45 minutes in the U.S. Another similar fact is that according to AAA, an average of 45 people are killed on New Year’s Eve in alcohol-related crashes. Take advantage of your local driving alternatives; from “Tipsy Tows”, to paying a designated driver, to supporting local businesses offering free taxi services, there is always a way to arrive safely home, without the risk of getting behind the wheel after having holiday cocktails.
